"A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more." - Steve Prefontaine

The Start of Something New

Well, I did it, I succumbed to the blogging phenomenon and created my own account. I have always been weary about this, and I never thought I would see this day (even though I had a LJ account back in the day). My job requires me to do a lot of critical thinking, and a lot of sitting down in front of a computer, which then results in me looking for other things to stimulate my mind every once in awhile. I love my job, don't get me wrong, it just helps me appreciate having a life and looking forward to things. So here we are.

A little about myself: I am a young professional, graduating from Umass-Lowell with my bachelors degree in mechanical engineering in 2008. I spent the summer and winter before graduation interning at The Shaw Group as a nuclear systems intern, and was asked to stay as a full-time employee. I have spent the last year and a half with them, developing my nuclear system skills. Outside of that, I started training for triathlons as a way to exercise and to have something to do when I left work. I competed in 4 triathlons and 2 duathlons this past summer, one being the Sprint National Championship in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, which I qualified for in my second race. Overall, triathlons, the training and racing, has been a great experience for me, and will continue to be. I am currently living with my parents, but in 2 weeks will be moving into an apartment with my girlfriend of 2 years, Laura, in Waltham. More on this later.

This blog is not going to be about any specific subjects, but an array of subjects that may or may not interest you. I plan on discussing my job in a way so that you may understand and appreciate nuclear energy more; my experiences in life that I have had, and continue to have, in case you would like to have similar experiences; and I also plan on discussing my progress and training through my newest hobby, triathlons. I am very much into social networking sites (facebook, dmi, twitter) and am excited to be able to use more than 140 characters!
